The trip to Guanajuato from Phoenix was smooth and successful. I enjoyed talking with a couple from Morelia, Mexico on the plane from Phoenix to Houston. They did not speak English, so it was a good way to begin my immersion into Spanish-speaking again. They were returning to Mexico for their daughter's wedding!
Once I arrived in Leon, Mexico, Sergio (an employee of the University) gave me a ride to the house where I am staying this summer. He forgot to shut off his car lights, so we had to find someone to give us a jump to start the car! It didn't take long.
I absolutely LOVE the family I am living with this summer! Mari Cruz is a single mom with two gorgeous daughters, Pamelah (15) and Fernanda (8). They also have a very cute dog named Shakira! The dog warmed up to me and sat on my lap all night!
I'm living closer to town this summer and I'm sharing a room with a colleague I met last summer, Kristine. We have vowed to speak Spanish the entire time while we are here. We have the same class schedule, so we'll be able to study together and share the load. Lynn, another colleague, is also living here and is part of the same program. I can already tell the three of us will work well together and provide each other the moral support you need to survive the rigor of this program.
Classes start on Monday. So, we're off to do some shopping and relaxing before the reality of school starts.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Love,
Sarah
