Week 2 in Gto - Summer #3
Over the weekend various of my colleagues did an outstanding job with their Action Research presentations. It gave me continued confidence that I will do well this coming Saturday in my presentation entitled: A Woven Tapestry - Critical Incident Lead to Conflict Resolution.
We climbed the mountain again this past Sunday and it was surreal! We couldn't hear the noise of the city and it was a needed escape. For those of you have not read my prior Blog posts from the last two years, Guanajuato is infamous for its sounds: dogs barking, rooster's crowing, rockets going off, church bells ringing. . . need I say more?
This week is going to be intense with projects . . . including the finishing touches I need to make on my Action Research paper and presentation. Hope to hear from some of you, as it never gets any easier to be away from my family.

Summer 2010
Hola familia y amigos,
Arrived safe and sound to Guanajuato, Mexico for my final summer! Life is much less stressful this summer as I'm only taking 6 credits, yet still need to finish my preparations for my Action Research presentation on Sat., July 3rd.
I'm living with the same family and this year I have 5 colleagues from the graduate program living here too! The food is amazing and the company of my Mexican family make me feel like I'm at home.
I'll take some pictures this weekend and post them so you can meet my "family" and friends.
Take care,
Sarah

Only One Week to Go!
Hello Family and Friends,
I can't believe I am about to start the last week of the summer session! The time has gone by very quickly and I have enjoyed my time here in Guanajuato. My current classes are a mix of grammar theory, instruction methodology and my action research project. The action research project is something I will implement during the school year, so I am currently writing my proposal.
Last weekend Pamela celebrated her "quince aƱos" in the church. It was a beautiful presentation in the church. I cried when her family read their speeches to her. Afterwards there was a party in the lower level of the church. I will do my best to post pictures this weekend of the festivities.
Today Fernanda is celebrating her 9th birthday! She LOVES barbies so my roommates and I went together to get her the veternarian barbie. We are going to have posole rojo for the party this afternoon.
I am grateful that my posts on this Blog this summer have been more about living in Guanajuato then studying in Guanajuato. I believe I've been able to balance enjoying the family and friends I have here in Mexico with the responsibilities of my school work.
This will more than likely be my last post before I head back to Arizona. I hope and pray that the summer has been a time of rejuvination for all of you. Please let me know how you are doing. I do check my school e-mail regulary while I'm here and I'll be back at work August 3rd, so please stay in touch.
Oh, I realize that I have not shared my news about Akimel A-al with all of you! My colleague Sandy resigned in late July, so I will have a new colleague to work with this year! I'm very excited to see who it will be and am grateful for the opportunity to learn new ideas from someone new. Please pray for us as our working relationship is very unique and being able to work together well can make every difference in my day to day working environment.
Love to all,
Sarah

Beginning Session 2
The last week of the first session went by quickly with various projects, papers and final exams. I believe I finished on a high note, but you never know.
We had a large group out on Friday night celebrating the graduation of those who started the first summer. One of the graduates is a dear friend of mine from last year. In addition to coming to Mexico to present her action research project, she just got married last weekend! So, everyone was excited to meet her husband. Other students have been arriving this weekend so attend the second session, so although I'll miss colleagues that have left already (Heather, Emily and Peter) others will arrive that I'm looking forward to seeing again (Erin & Modesta).
A group of us took a day trip to Leon (a large city nearby). We took the tour of the city on an open-air bus and had an amazing Mexican meal at a local restaurante. The woman of the house made fresh salsa right infront of us! Leon is known for its leather products, so I (of course) bought a couple things!!!!
We will start our second session tomorrow. I will be taking my Action Research class to write my proposal that I will be implementing this coming school year. The other class I chose to take is very grammar-based. I had the professor last year and believe it will help me refine my skills in the classroom, not to mention my own daily use of the language. I'm also looking forward to my Advanced Conversation class and pray that I have the same professor I had last summer.
I miss my boys (Gili & Calvin) very much, but we're on the downslope and I know that I'll be home with them before I know it. Hope all is well and that you are finding ways to beat the summer heat!
Love always,
Sarah
